Gamers Please Stay Down
This show just sucks. I legit struggled to fight through the three episodes required to give this a proper review and I’m glad I’m done with it. Keita is a loner gamer otaku who ends up the object of school idol Karen’s affection. She apparently runs a gaming club but its too intense for Keita so he turns her down, even when she confesses her crush on him. This would be the end of Karen’s development as she borders on yandere territory and is constantly creeping on Keita as he bumbles through misadventures. Ex-nerd and now resident cool guy Tasuku tries to take Keita under his wing and hook him up with another loner gamer girl Chiaki. Chiaki is your bog-standard, neet girl with messy hair who overnight changes her appearance into a super cute girl because anime. Chiaki and Keita get along super well until they clash over moe characters in games (Keita loves them Chiaki hates them, they fight over it for no reason). This whole things makes Karen think Keita is dating Chiaki and Tasuku’s girlfriend into thinking he is dating Chiaki. Keita tries to fix this but I’m pretty sure it’s leading to Tasuku thinking Keita is into his girlfriend. It’s as stupid as it sounds.
Reading the summary for the rest of the season, seems like nothing gets resolved, the “relationship drama” only continues and becomes more complicated and the most obvious “twist” is eventually revealed. Honestly the OP makes the case for a much cooler anime than what we get. Hell games take a backseat after the second episode. The couple do have some games in it, including a pretty shitty Counter Strike clone and then actual Persona 4 Arena gameplay. Weird that seems to be the only actual game shown, everything else is dumb knockoffs. I can’t recomend this show, it has little going for it and the characters are one dimensional and annoying. Stay clear.
