Killing Bites

Teenage Hybrid Fighting Furries

Do you like animal facts, violence and tournament arcs? If so, this is probably the anime for you. Killing Bites follows Hitomi, a human/honey badger hybrid, and her unwitting “investor” Yuya as they look to win the eponymous fighting series. Turns out the equivalent of the Japanese illuminati have secretly been running the economy and betting on blood sports for decades. Recently, a scientist has pioneered editing human genes with animal traits to create superior beings, ostensibly to fight each other. The series starts with random one on one battles but the main focus is a team battle royale with each major illuminati group backing a stable of hybrid fighters. All of this fighting is juxtaposed with the rather innocent nature of the fighters outside of combat. There are definitely some tonal whiplashes in this show, so prepared to go from violent to horny to violent again.

Personally, I couldn’t really get into the show. I don’t have a good reason why, maybe just burnt out watching furries fight each other after BNA. The characters themselves are also just okay. The scientist that created Hitomi has her in a weird one-sided relationship which he uses to manipulate her. It’s interesting in concept as something to explore but in practice its not executed super well. The fight scenes are pretty well animated and the quality of the show overall is pretty solid. I think most people would enjoy this but for some reason it just wasn’t grabbing me. It is definitely trash though. As stated above, this show isn’t afraid to go into fan service. Panty shots, “cosplay” photo sessions, and panty stealing are just some of the things that occur, and even the violence is rather overdone to a trashy extent. Also big trigger warning for anyone sensitive to sexual assault or rape. These things come up quite a few times in the show so do not watch if that is something that bothers you.

Is it trash? YES
